Pelvic Health

Pelvic Floor dysfunction can occur in a wide variety of patient populations; however, postpartum women tend to be at a higher risk. Weakening of, damage to, or trauma in the lumbopelvic musculature can result in a number of symptoms; including but not limited to:

  • Constipation

  • Incontinence

  • Urgency

  • Pain/discomfort

Assessment of the hips, spine, core musculature, posture, and biomechanics will help to determine if physical therapy is an appropriate modality. Treatment may include:

  • Stretching and/or strengthening exercises

  • Corrective exercise for altered biomechanics in the case of adaptive shortening

  • Postural re-education

  • Coordination exercises

  • Biofeedback techniques

  • Appropriate modalities
